This season’s perfect accessory: the new, faster LTE Rocket mobile hotspot

Sierra Wireless LTE hotspot from RogersSpring has sprung here and with the sudden increase in temperature I had a light bulb moment: why doesn’t my team take all our meetings outdoors? With the newly launched Sierra Wireless AirCard 763S LTE mobile hotspot, we can do this pretty easily!

Not only could we use the new hotspot to reschedule our boardroom bookings to the lawn, park, or  patio, it’s also useful for people who travel on business or if you’re taking it easy lakeside at the cottage this summer and need to stay connected.

With the new Sierra Wireless AirCard 763S LTE mobile hotspot you can create a password-protected hotspot in seconds for up to 10 Wi-Fi enabled devices.  This means that no matter where you decide to set up your office, you and your team can all access your emails, presentations and shared documents online.  Here are a few more advantages:

  • It’s faster than ever: the maximum theoretical download speed is up to 100 Mbps but this next generation device is enabled for both 1700/2100MHz and 2600 MHz spectrum connectivity on the Rogers LTE network for typical LTE download speeds of 12-40 Mbps compared to 12-25 Mbps for devices using 1700/2100MHz only.
  • It’s flexible: the mobile hotspot isn’t limited to laptops- you can connect virtually any Wi-Fi device including tablets, e-readers, printers, cameras, music or gaming devices.
  • It’s easy to carry and use everywhere: About the size of a deck of cards, with up to 6 hours of battery life, and a helpful LCD screen to guide you, being productive amongst nature has never been this simple.

In order to access the Rogers LTE network, you’ll need the following:

  • an LTE-ready device
  • an LTE SIM card, and
  • an LTE plan within Rogers LTE coverage area.

When outside of LTE coverage area, the mobile hotspot seamlessly connects to Rogers 4G HSPA+ network across the nation and supports roaming in over 190 countries. Rogers has the fastest and largest LTE network* and it’s available in select Canadian cities. You can check out www.rogers.com/coverage for a map and details.

Create your own Wi-Fi hotspot, when and where you need it

LTE Rocket Mobile hotspot from RogersThe LTE Rocket mobile hotspot is now available as part of our lineup of LTE devices.  Compact and powerful, the Sierra Wireless AirCard 754S is ideal for mobile teams and employees who need access to the Internet from their Wi-Fi tablets and computers when away from the office.

The Sierra AirCard creates a Wi-Fi hotspot using the LTE network and allows you to connect up to 5 devices, including a Wi-Fi printer, which will let you wirelessly print documents from your smartphone, tablet or computer.

When connected to the LTE network, typical download speeds are between 12 Mbps and 25 Mbps which is comparable to speeds experienced in an office.  When outside of LTE areas, the device automatically connects to our 4G HSPA+ and EDGE networks so you’ll have coverage wherever you need it.

It’s also easy to use:  there’s no software to download or configure and the device features an LCD screen which lets you see important real-time stats including how many devices are connected, how much data you’ve used and how much battery power is left.

In addition to automatic data encryption provided by the Rogers wireless network, the Sierra AirCard provides you with Wi-Fi security controls that are similar to your office’s Wi-Fi network so you can keep unwanted devices from accessing your data and internet connection.

Do you think the LTE Rocket Mobile Hotspot will work for your business?  Let us know what you think.

Top five tips for business – shared by YOU!

Rogers small businessIf you own or manage a business, you know that no decision is ever easy. But one thing’s for sure – advice given at a time when you’re receptive can change your entire career—but only if you’re listening. As part of our first Share Your Know-How Contest, we asked readers “What is the best business advice you have ever received?” We were met with lots of inspired and interesting comments and thought we would share with you five of our favorites:

Listen

“Listen to your customers, vendors, truck drivers, and secretaries, anyone you interact with throughout the business day. There is information that all these parties have to offer that can be invaluable” – Bhupinder D

Ask for help when it is needed

“Don’t be afraid to bring in partners or ask for assistance from people who are good at things that you are not good at, or who enjoy doing things that you do not enjoy doing. No one goes it alone.” – Colleen C.

Identify your target customer

“Best business advice was to first identify your target customer. Work hard to understand who will use your product/service, what their habits are, how much money they might spend, what your value proposition is, and what your unique selling propositions will be.”- Jeff B.

Network

“Always look for opportunities. This does not mean trying to be a sales man at friendly gatherings, but look for new ways to network, to promote, or to cut costs.” – Contest_B

Follow-up

“One of the most important pieces of advice is to always make sure you follow up, whether it is to contact someone or if they contact you and you need to respond. You don’t know who they know and if you don’t follow up you could lose out on a potential opportunity.” – BLevy

RedBoard Biz video: What does LTE mean for business?

Over the past few weeks, we have been talking a lot about our new LTE network, which is delivering the world’s fastest wireless network speeds across the country. For business, this means time saved on everyday tasks such as sending emails, video conferencing and uploading files.

The network also enhances your experience with business applications. For example, remote workers can now leverage real-time video streaming without jitter or latency issues while on the road, or in the field.

To use the network, you need to pick up an LTE smartphone, tablet or wireless internet stick. You can check out the roster of devices we have available here.

Last week, we had the opportunity to catch up with Reade Barber, Senior Director Data Product Management here at Rogers on our very own LTE bus to learn more about the benefits of the new network for business. Check out what he had to say in the videos below:

Video 1: What is LTE & Online Collaboration Demo

Reade Barber talks about LTE and how businesses will benefit from faster speeds and reduced latency. Video includes a demonstration of real-time collaboration between two people using Google Docs.

Video 2: LTE Devices for Business

Reade Barber shows off the latest LTE devices including the LTE Rocket Stick (Sierra Wireless AirCard 313U), HTC JetStream LTE tablet and Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphone.

Video 3: Remote Worker Healthcare Application on LTE

Reade Barber demonstrates how LTE data speeds can help remote workers interact with experts in real time to solve problems. For more information on the tablet and software featured, visit www.motioncomputing.ca.

Ottawa small business customers, the wait is over: LTE is now live in Ottawa!

Ottawa small business customers, the wait is over: LTE is now live in Ottawa!

Back in June there was a lot of excitement when we announced that Long Term Evolution (LTE) would be coming to Ottawa later this summer.  Today we’re making good on that promise by lighting up our LTE network in the nation’s capital. This fall Rogers will roll out LTE to Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, with another 21 markets in 2012.

LTE delivers higher speeds and lower latency than 4G HSPA+ which means a better experience for small businesses using CRM tools, real-time video conferencing or who need to exchange large, multi-media communications. And it will deliver more usage capacity which means more users can access the network at top speeds simultaneously.

At launch, the LTE Rocket™ stick will be capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 75 Mbps on the Rogers LTE network.  Typical download speeds can range from 12 Mbps to 25 Mbps. As device selection evolves, maximum theoretical download speeds will increase to up to 150 Mbps.

Ottawa LTE network coverage spans a broad area from Arnprior, Ontario in the west to Orléans, Ontario in the east and includes the Hull and Gatineau regions of Quebec. Starting today, Ottawa small business customers can pick up Rogers first LTE-enabled device, the LTE Rocket stick, at these four Ottawa-area locations:

  • Rogers Plus, 11 Selkirk St.
  • Rogers Plus, 1379A Woodroffe Ave.
  • Rogers Authorized Dealer with in-store Rogers Small Business Specialists – Wireless Express, 205 Richmond Rd.
  • Rogers Authorized Dealer with in-store Rogers Small Business Specialists – Go Communications, 901 Carling Ave.

Small business customers in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver can reserve LTE Rocket sticks through the Rogers Reservation System, which will be extended to accept Rocket stick reservations until 9:00 a.m. EST, Monday, July 11. The Rogers Reservation System allows you to secure a place “in line” for the device. For instructions on how to use the system, check out our RedBoard post from June or call 1-800-850-4217 to order.

Corporate, commercial and public sector customers in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver should contact their Rogers Account Representatives to reserve LTE Rocket sticks. LTE products will be available to these business customers in the Fall.
