Can Wi-Fi Calling Work for Your Business?
Wi-Fi Calling for Business is now available exclusively to Rogers customers. Now your team can make calls by connecting to an office, home or public Wi-Fi network and move seamlessly to the Rogers wireless network when the Wi-Fi network is not available.
Why make calls on Wi-Fi?
- Predict your costs: Wi-Fi calling offers unlimited local and Canada-wide calling without using the minutes included in your wireless voice plan. This can reduce or eliminate costly overage charges and help you choose a competitive plan that’s right for your business.
- Extend Your Coverage: Complement and enhance your Rogers wireless service by using Wi-Fi for access in areas outside regular coverage range, such as underground.
- Deploy it Quickly: Rogers Wi-Fi Calling for Business uses functionality embedded in many popular mobile devices, including Blackberry. No need for new software, hardware or training.

Why is their a charge for this service? How is it different than Google Voice or Skype? Is Rogers using their own application to support this calling, is it being given priority over other internet based traffic?
Hi Jeremy – Unlike Skype or Google Voice, Rogers Wi-Fi calling service allows you to use your regular number to send and receive calls. The fee is for the ability to extend your mobile identity to a Wi-Fi enabled environment. Also, Rogers service is 100% secure. It creates a VPN tunnel from your phone to the network so there is no risk of hacking into your traffic.
Does this work with iPhone?
Hi Alex – it works with a number of handsets from the major device manufacturers, including most current BlackBerry devices, which are dual mode and support UMA technology (Unlicensed Mobile Access). Currently, the iPhone is not supported.
When will the iphone be supported on wifi calling?
It won’t be supported by iPhone until the iPhone “5″ or “4s” comes out. And even then it might not be supported. Long live skype! 3 dollars a month for unlimited outgoing calls to anywhere in Canada and u.s.
